The Santa Clause debuted in 1994 and became a hit.

The story was written by Leo Benvenuti and Steve Rudnick, and directed by John Pasquin.

Tim Allen, who was starring in Home Improvement at the time, starred as Scott Calvin. A divorced, toy salesman spending Christmas Eve with his son, Charlie. When Santa falls off the roof he puts on the suit and becomes Santa. He discovers putting the suit on made him Santa when he arrives at the North Pole and meets his head elf, Bernard. Over the year strange things happen as Calvin’s beard grows and his weight increases rapidly. His ex-wife and her husband, Laura and Neil, are concerned with the changes and suspend his visitation rights. He is believed to kidnap Charlie, who is helping him deliver gifts, and arrested when he arrives at their home. The elves arrive to rescue him and Laura agrees to allow him see Charlie any time. Laura and Neil soon receive presents which caused their disbelief in Santa and believe Scott Calvin is now Santa Clause.

The movie was a box office hit and is often shown on TV during the Christmas season.

In 2002, The Santa Clause 2 became the first sequel. In this movie, Santa finds a wife. Both the first and second films were number one at the box office.

In the final installment, the 2006, The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, Jack Frost strives to take over Santa duties and in an alternate parallel Scott Calvin sees what happens if Frost became Santa, instead of him and has to fight for his right to be Santa Clause. While both films were a success, they did not receive the acclaim of the original.
