Christmas TV Specials: Frosty the Snowman

posted in: Christmas | 0

This is the first program to feature Frosty the Snowman. The special is based on the 1950 song.

The creators Arthur Rankin, Jr. and Jules Bass wanted to give the show and characters the look and feel of a Christmas card. Paul Coker, a greeting card and Mad magazine artists, was hired to create the characters and background drawings.

The show premiered on December 7, 1969 on CBS and continues to air annually on CBS.

Other Frosty specials have been spun off including Frosty’s Winter Wonderland {1976}; Rudolph and Frosty’s Christmas in July {1979};  Frosty Returns {1992} and The Legend of Frosty the Snowman {2005}.
