June is National Rose month.

On November 20, 1986, President Ronald Reagan signed a resolution making the rose the national floral emblem of the United States.

Roses come in a variety of shades

President Reagan began his statement at the 1986 ceremony by saying, “Americans have always loved the flowers with which God decorates our land. More often than any other flower, we hold the rose dear as the symbol of life and love and devotion, of beauty and eternity.

Thegardendairy.com states “roses have a long and colorful history. They have been
symbols of love, beauty, war and politics.”

A rose is a perennial flowering plant with over a hundred species and a thousand cultivars.

The name rose comes from the French, which was derived from the Latin rosa.

Roses are used for symbols of love and friendship and come in a variety of shades and meanings.  They can also be used for making perfumes and in certain food and drinks.

If asked, over 80% of people will state the rose is their favorite flower.

What is your favorite color of rose?  What does it symbolize to you?
