In 1974, the animation team of Arthur Rankin and Jules Bass went to work on their next Christmas project, the Year without a Santa Claus.
The story was based on the 1956 book by Phyllis McGinley, by the same name.
The feature stared Mickey Rooney, George S. Irving and Shirley Booth, of the TV show Hazel. It was Booth’s last acting credit, as she soon retired.
A sequel, A Miser Brother’s Christmas, was produced in 2008 with Rooney and Irving reprising their roles.
