The hunt to find our family history has exploded with the advent of the internet.
Research is at the tip of our fingertips and records are much easier to find than ever before.
However, with this ease of information we have to be careful. There are many that provide information that is untrue and inaccurate.
There are website and family trees that are readily available today. But, many of these are inaccurate. At times this inaccuracy may be glaringly obvious {such as when a person born in 1618, has a parent that was born in 1959}. Other times the inaccuracy may not be as obvious.
This is one reason why it is so important to check the sources listed and research each individual yourself. You can use this as a starting point, but don’t take this information as the gospel.
If you see an error or inaccuracy, then realize that is what it is and don’t copy and share that information.
Remember, in genealogy you can’t believe everything you see. You have to check sources and verify and re-verify information.
This will make you a better researcher and others will be more willing to accept the information and stories you have to share.
What are some funny inaccuracies you’ve found in your research?
