State Census Records

Did you know there were state census records?

State census records are a great asset

The information and availability varies per state.

Some records may have been destroyed over the years due to fire, water damage or natural disaster.

Ancestry.com has many of these state census records in their database.

State census records were often taken in years that did not fall at the time of the Federal Census.  The state census records provide an additional glimpse and insight into the lives of our ancestors.

State Census records can fill in blanks such as when an ancestor was not on a census records, there are questions of parentage, a person has died between census records or to help fill in gaps on the missing 1890 census.
