Census records are a great resource for genealogist.
When I began researching, I had to go to the library and search individual microfilms. Today with the advance in technology, Ancestry.com makes it easy to search for and find an individual in just seconds.
So what can you learn from census records?
o The name of your grandmother/grandfather went by
o The name of children—you may find children you never knew existed
o The approximate year of birth—often these dates have been inaccurately provided
o Place of birth for your ancestor and his/her parents
o Occupation
o Veteran of different wars
o Ability to read/write
o Place they were living on each census record
o Rent/Own and value of property
o Number of children mother had; number of children still living
