RAOGK or Random Acts of Genealogy Kindness is very important in helping to break through brick walls. Working together as a community we can often break through these obstacles.
So I wanted to share some examples of RAOGK that I have seen lately.
- Woman bought a dish set engraved with a family name and offered to the family for the same low price she paid.
- Person asked for help with reading a signatures and others used their computer skills to enhance the signature for reading.
- A faded picture was loaded and others used their computer programs to enhance and color the photo.
- An old family Bible was given to a family member at no cost.
- A man went to a cemetary to take pictures and sent them to the ancestor hundreds of miles away.
These are just a few examples I’ve seen. There are Facebook groups for genealogy one can join {including RAOK groups}, websites for RAOGK and then sites such as Ancestry and FindAGrave where you can make connections and provide a random act of genealoky kindness.
How can you offer a RAOGK?
