Abbey Fillmore

She was born on March 27, 1832 and named after her mother, who was Abigail Powers, before her marriage. She was usually referred to as Abbie.

She studied at private schools in Massachusetts and graduated from New York State Normal School.

She is said to be an accomplished musician, in which she played the piano, guitar and harp. She spoke French fluently and was conversant in other languages as well, including German, Spanish and Italian.

Abbey is said to even perform at White House functions during her father’s presidency.

Her mother died three weeks {24 days} after her father left the presidency. Abbie took over the management of her father’s household.

She died on July 26, 1854 at the age of 22, from cholera.
