Christmas Traditions: Letters to Santa

posted in: Christmas | 0

Writing letters to Santa is a long held tradition for children. While we don’t know how long letter writing has been going on, the United States postal service made an effort to begin answering the letters in 1912. Since 1940, the organization has held “Operation Santa” to ensure the letters are adopted by charitable organizations, corporations, businesses and individuals. Their goal is to make children’s dreams come true from “coast to coast”.

According to a 2007 study, France received the most letters in 2006 with over 1.2 million.  Over 126 countries reported receiving letters for Santa.
