Downside to Sharing Research With Others

posted in: Family History, Genealogy | 0

Last week, we discussed the benefits of researching with others. There are many benefits, but are there any negatives?

I’ve noticed a few in the decades I have been conducting genealogy research, however the positives have more than outweighed the negatives.

  1. Tentative research taken as the gospel truth and shared with others
  2. Other researchers taking credit for your hard work
  3. Sharing information that you have been asked not to share
  4. Disagreements on names of ancestors without any definitive proof

What negatives have you found in sharing your research with others?
