National Picnic Month

July is National Picnic Month.  So what better time than to take a picnic for our monthly outing?

Do you enjoy a good picnic?

The word picnic first appeared in print in 1692.  The term originally described a group of people dining, who brought their own wine. 

The concept of a picnic is that everyone brought something to contribute.

The idea of eating a meal out of doors, originates to the Middle Ages, when hunting was a popular sport.

Picnics are often a family oriented affair, but they are also popular with church groups and small communities.  Community wide picnics were very popular in the 19th and early 20th Centuries.

Today the art of a picnic has often transformed into events such as barbeques and grilling.
